IT Support – Computer Shortcuts

Alex Dance

Many of us spend a lot of time in front of a computer. Here are a few cool IT support hacks that will make your life a little bit easier.

1. Lock your computer fast

Sometimes you might want to lock your computer or make a window disappear very fast. There is an easy way to do this.

Simply press the Windows+D key and voila! You will find yourself at your desktop.

Alternatively, you can lock your computer very fast by pressing Windows+ L key and phew done!!

If you need to close a window or tab fast, use Alt+F4 to close an open window in your computer or use Ctrl+F4 to close an open tab. If you are using a mouse, click the tab with the mouse middle button to close it.

2. MSWord made easy

You probably use Word all the time. Here are a few tricks that will make using Word easier.

  • If you want to do quick spellcheck of your document, click on F7 on your PC.
  • You can easily find a word on MS Word by pressing Ctrl+F.
  • If you are using Word, it gets pretty annoying to keep changing the casing of a word or text by going to the menu bar. Simply, select the text and use Shift + F3 and there you can now toggle between lower and upper case.

3. Quick delete

If you need to delete a file permanently from your computer instead of sending it to the recycle bin, there is an easy way to do it. The shortcut key Shift + Delete will do it for you.

Sometimes we want to delete words in Word, and it can be slow to use backspace as it deletes one letter at a time. Use Ctrl+Backspace to delete a word at a time.

4. We love to screenshot

The print screen command is used to get a screenshot of the whole computer screen. However, what if you want to take a screenshot of part of the screen? Here is a simple trick.

Use the ALT key plus the Print screen (prtScr) key to get it done. Alternatively, go to start and look for Snipping tool and use your cursor to take a screenshot of a part of your screen.

In conclusion, there are so many cool tricks that you can pull off your computer. However, we hope the ones provided here will make it easy for you to use your PC or your desktop.
